The Avengers will be opening in cinemas in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D on May 4th 2012. As most of you might already be aware, this Joss Whedon film stars a number of Marvel’s comic book heroes, including Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr), Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner).
The introduction of S.H.I.E.L.D and other comic book characters like Nick Fury (Samuel. L Jackson) and the Black Widow (Scarlet Johansen) in Iron Man 2, seem to have given viewers a hint about what was to come in the near future. We later saw Nick Fury returning to the silver screen in another super hero movie known as Captain America, which set the precedent for an all star Avengers. While the previous Hulk movies have not exactly been up to the mark, it appears that the character will be brought in a revamped style in “The Avengers”.
While Iron Man 2 seemed well placed, Captain America and Thor appeared like cheesy action movies that seemed to have been made in a hurry. In fact, Captain America at many instances appeared more than unbearable. Despite the drawbacks of earlier associated movies and the fact that there was no movie at all to explore S.H.I.E.L.D and the important Avengers character of “Hawkeye”, we can hope that Avengers will be different from the preceding movies. One good aspect of The Avengers is the inclusion of Joss Whedon to the team, who seems perfect for the job. Joss Whedon has previously been associated with a number of TV series including, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and Firefly. He has also been the writer and director of a number of movies, some of which have received a cult classic status, including Alien: Resurrection and Serenity.
There have been a few teasers coming out for The Avengers since a while now and it appears that the producers are making sure that no spoilers reach fans and the mystery surrounding the actual plot is kept. For instance, the trailers have so far only shown Loki as being the perpetrator, while other villains are also expected to be in the movie. Furthermore, we are shown a few battle ships fighting in the cities, though it cannot be determined from the recent trailer as to what may be the purpose of and from whom they may be from.
All we can hope for is that The Avengers turns out to be even better than the Iron Man movies and does not end up to be as cheesy as Thor or Captain America.
